Where in the world is Satoshi Nakomoto? 5 People who Claim to Be Him and Why They Aren’t
Less than 15 years after Bitcoin went live, it has grown to be the largest and most successful cryptocurrency. As the total crypto market cap recovers above $1 trillion, BTC’s market share is above 41 percent.
However, unlike Ethereum, Cardano, or Polkadot, whose founders were well known, the identity of Bitcoin’s creator(s) remains a mystery. The entity or person behind Bitcoin might have been publicity-shy or chose his privacy over fame. Still, what’s clear is that the crypto community won’t tire. Crypto sleuths are actively looking to decrypt the identity of the elusive founder.
As of mid-July 2022, there has been a laundry list of people who assert to be Satoshi but, in one way or another, have failed to prove ownership of the one million BTC held by the founder. Are any of the below persons Satoshi?
Craig Wright
Without a doubt, the Australian computer scientist wants to be Satoshi. He has, on multiple occasions, claimed to be the founder, going to the media, and even created a fork of Bitcoin. The problem is that he has a reputation for riding on “brighter stars” to stay relevant. His new project didn’t perform as expected. More damning is that Craig has never released the private keys that would automatically qualify him as the brains behind the multi-billion platform.
Dorian Satoshi Nakamoto
Besides living a few blocks from Hal Finney, one of the first adopters of Bitcoin, and having the same name as the name of the mysterious BTC founder, Dorian Satoshi Nakamoto might be the face of Bitcoin (and a celebrity), but not the network’s brains.
Hal Finney
Hal, the computer scientist, received a BTC transaction from Satoshi and was the first to run the Bitcoin program in the early days of the network. Analysts claim that even his writing style bears the closest resemblance to Satoshi’s. While stimulating as it is, for a person who had gone to great lengths to conceal his identity, conversing or transacting with himself doesn’t make sense.

Nick is a talented cryptographer and an internet money fan, having been part of the CryptoPunk movement for years. However, while many place him close to the Bitcoin nucleus as the founder, Nick has repeatedly denied being the founder of Bitcoin.
Paul Le Roux
There are claims that Paul might be the founder of Bitcoin. The problem is, by the time Satoshi was at work stabilizing the network; he was involved in illegal things like drug and gun smuggling. Paul also comes across as arrogant while reading from Satoshi’s conversations, the BTC founder appears humble.
